Polish Tatra sheepdogs Atte and Lyyli
If someone has wondered what that gibberish in main site is, it is Finnish. Strange language which is so difficult, that only a few million people understand it. :-) I have noticed that my site gets also some foreign visitors. I don't have time and interest to write everything in many languages so I decided to do little English summary for those who are interested in this fine breed. My English might be a bit rusty, but I guess it is still more understandable than that Finnish text.
This site is about our two dogs - owczarek podhalanski "Atte" and "Lyyli". They are a brother and sister so they both were born in 6th of August 2005 in Finland. You can see Atte's pedigree here and Lyyli's here. Owczarek podhalanski can also be called as polish tatra sheepdog, tatra shepherd dog, tatra mountain dog and maybe some other names that I haven't heard yet. Names "Atte" and "Lyyli" doesn't mean anything special. They are just normal Finnish names.
Owczarek podhalanski is centuries old breed. It comes from Poland and its original job is to guard and protect sheep and other livestock from wolves, thieves and other beasts. In some languages owczarek podhalanski is translated incorrectly. It is not shepherd dog. It is livestock guardian dog. We don't have any other animals, so our dogs job is just to guard our house and yard and of course to be our buddies. :-)
Atte (male) is reserved to strangers but extremely warm to familiar people. Also other female dogs are Atte's friends. When Atte is doing his job he is unbribable guard. Lyyli (female) doesn't really care about other dogs except Atte, who is her best friend. Lyyli is more open-minded and more easygoing than Atte. Most often Atte is stubborn like a mule. :-) They both like to do their job outdoors, hang out inside with us and take some long walks in the woods or sometimes in the city.
Like I mentioned before, main language here is Finnish but photos, which play big part of my site looks just same regardless where you sit in. Just click on photos and use your browsers "back"-button to navigate. Also feel free to write to guestbook or send e-mail. Guestbook's fields from top to bottom are "name", "e-mail", "homepage" and the big one is for the message. Button on bottom sends message. Only name and message are needed.
